The project balances native planting, shaded gathering spaces, walking paths, and outdoor learning environments within a hillside setting overlooking the San Fernando Valley.

Designed as both a public landscape and environmental resource, the site encourages interaction with nature through informal circulation, restored habitat areas, and outdoor spaces that support education, reflection, and community engagement. Framed views, drought tolerant planting, and natural material selections reinforce the organization’s mission of environmental stewardship and long term ecological resilience throughout Southern California.

Design Approach

The landscape is organized through a network of pedestrian paths, gathering spaces, native planting areas, and outdoor learning environments integrated within the natural topography of the canyon setting. Decomposed granite trails, shaded seating areas, and interpretive spaces create opportunities for movement, education, and connection to the surrounding landscape.

Planting is composed through a climate responsive palette of California native and drought tolerant species selected to support habitat restoration, biodiversity, and long term environmental performance. Oak trees, native grasses, shrubs, and layered hillside planting reinforce the ecological character of the site while softening built elements throughout the property.

Natural materials, permeable surfaces, and understated architectural interventions allow the surrounding landscape and environmental mission of TreePeople to remain central to the experience of the site. The result is an environmental landscape that integrates education, restoration, and public engagement into a cohesive outdoor environment rooted in the natural character of Los Angeles and the Santa Monica Mountains.

 Location: Los Angeles, CA
