El Dorado Golf & Beach Club

Located within El Dorado Golf & Beach Club in Cabo, Mexico, Private 2 (Burrows) is a contemporary interpretation of an old world hacienda estate designed through layered courtyards, lush garden spaces, and warm natural materials that respond to the desert coastal landscape. Designed for a residence by Kovac Architects with interiors by Chris Barrett, the landscape blends traditional Mexican villa influences with a more restrained contemporary character rooted in indoor outdoor living.

The property is organized through a sequence of intimate courtyards, shaded terraces, water features, and garden pathways that create moments of enclosure, transition, and framed views toward the surrounding mountains and golf landscape. Layered tropical planting, desert adapted species, natural stone, and textured walls establish a lush yet grounded environment that feels private, immersive, and deeply connected to the atmosphere of Cabo living.

Design Approach

The landscape is organized through a series of interconnected outdoor rooms that establish clear relationships between architecture, garden, pool terraces, and entertainment spaces. Courtyards and pathways create a gradual sequence of movement throughout the property while reinforcing the relaxed rhythm of the residence.

A climate responsive planting palette composed of palms, succulents, desert adapted planting, flowering vines, and layered tropical material introduces texture, shade, and seasonal variation throughout the landscape. Planting was carefully integrated to soften architectural edges, frame views, and create privacy while maintaining openness toward the surrounding site.

Water features, reflecting basins, and integrated fountains were introduced throughout the courtyards to provide movement, sound, and cooling within the outdoor environment. Natural stone walls, textured paving, and warm material tones reinforce the contemporary hacienda character of the property while creating continuity between architecture and landscape.

Outdoor living areas were designed to support both intimate daily use and large scale entertaining, with shaded seating areas, terraces, fire features, and poolside gathering spaces integrated throughout the site. Material selections remain restrained and tactile, allowing planting, light, shadow, and texture to shape the experience of the landscape.

The result is a contemporary residential landscape that blends Mexican villa architecture, resort style outdoor living, and climate responsive planting into a cohesive luxury estate environment rooted in the character of Cabo, Mexico.
