San Ysidro, Beverly Hills

Defined by a contemporary architectural language, the landscape is developed in direct response to the work of Ray Kappe, using clarity of structure, material, and spatial continuity. Indoor and outdoor spaces are conceived as one system, allowing the landscape to read as an extension of the architecture rather than a separate layer.

Planes of glass, wood, and concrete open directly to the garden, where terraces, lawn, and pool elements align to reinforce the geometry of the home. Movement is fluid and uninterrupted, with spaces transitioning seamlessly between interior and exterior.

The result is a landscape that feels open, controlled, and continuous, where architecture and site are fully integrated.

Design Approach

The landscape is organized through a series of horizontal planes that extend from the architecture, establishing continuity across the site. Circulation is direct and unobstructed, allowing the spatial sequence to remain clear and legible.

Material selection reinforces the architectural language. Concrete, wood, and glass define edges, surfaces, and thresholds, creating a restrained palette that emphasizes form and proportion.

Planting is minimal and precise, used to soften transitions and provide contrast without interrupting the clarity of the design. Low grasses, structured planting, and open lawn maintain visual continuity while introducing texture and scale.

Water elements are integrated as part of the architectural composition. The pool aligns with the primary axes of the home, reinforcing the geometry while reflecting light and extending the spatial experience.

The result is a landscape that is disciplined and cohesive, where structure, material, and proportion work together to support a fully integrated architectural environment.
