The Glen Center

Located along Beverly Glen just south of Mulholland Drive, The Glen Centre is an outdoor lifestyle destination designed to blend commercial activity, dining, and gathering within a lush Southern California garden setting. The landscape creates a welcoming arrival experience through layered planting, sculptural succulents, and drought tolerant garden compositions that soften the commercial environment while reinforcing the relaxed character of the center.

Positioned between West Los Angeles and the San Fernando Valley, the project balances visibility, pedestrian circulation, and landscape identity through a composition of Mediterranean and California adapted planting. The result is an outdoor commercial environment that feels vibrant, walkable, and closely connected to the surrounding hillside community.

Design Approach

The landscape is organized through pedestrian oriented pathways, layered planting zones, and integrated gathering spaces that strengthen the connection between retail, dining, and outdoor circulation throughout the property. Planting compositions are designed to create seasonal color, texture, and visual interest while reinforcing the open air character of the center.

A drought tolerant planting palette composed of sculptural agaves, succulents, flowering perennials, ornamental grasses, and Mediterranean influenced species creates a resilient and climate responsive landscape environment suited to the Southern California climate. Mature trees and layered planting beds provide shade, scale, and softness throughout the commercial setting while maintaining visibility and openness across the site.

Material selections and planting compositions work together to establish a landscape identity that feels approachable, contemporary, and rooted in the character of Los Angeles hillside communities. The result is a commercial landscape that integrates planting, pedestrian experience, and outdoor lifestyle into a cohesive retail and hospitality environment.
